Sewage spill closes stretch of small creek
June 16, 2009
June 16, 2009 - Residents are warned to stay out of a small creek along Sykesville Road after untreated sewage leaked into the water over the weekend. Between 500 and 1,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled onto a county right-of-way and into the unnamed creek when a private system backed up. Today, it was determined that at least some of the spill had reached the water. The small creek runs through a field behind a row of houses on Sykesville Road, near Piney Ridge Parkway. At the request of the Health Department, a 500- to 600-foot length of the stream is being posted this afternoon. Residents are warned to avoid contact with the water and should not fish there until further notice.
Questions can be directed to the Environmental Health section of the Health Department, at 410-876-1884, or the Carroll County Bureau of Utilities, at 410-386-2164.
