RE/MAX Office Moving
Eric Villard
June 30, 2009
Anyone with a keen eye may have noticed the Re/Max office in Eldersburg, there for about 12 years, has gone dark. Fear not property hunters, the office is simply relocating.
According to sources from Re/Max Advantage Realty, which has offices in Westminster, Fulton, Columbia and Severna Park in addition to Eldersburg, the company had been looking for a new location for some time. According to Dennis Boyle, a Re/Max agent, the agency initially had a new location lined up, but the deal did not go through. To put it simply, the office’s current lease expired before they secured a new building to reside in.
Donna Arndt, regional vice president of Re/Max Advantage, said they should have a new location within the next few weeks. Because of the legal issues typically associated with property acquisition, she could not disclose what property Re/Max was looking to relocate to.
“At this point we’re looking for a much better face than we had before in the Eldersburg-area,” she said. She stressed that the office closing was not a sign of financial trouble, but rather that the relocation was something they were planning to do for a while.
While the agents may have temporarily lost their home base, there are plenty of other Re/Max offices that they can use. “It’s not like the company is closing or anything, it’s a temporary deal,” said Boyle. “We have offices in Columbia and Westminster also so we’re temporarily relocated into those offices until we get another space.”
Another Re/Max source said some of the agents worked from home anyway or did most of their work on the move outside of the office; so losing the Eldersburg agency for a short period of time was not a big deal.
Boyle did see how the somewhat abrupt closure might have alarmed some residents. He said from a perception standpoint “it’s not a good thing for us to be closing an office in that area. I think every other real estate company… and all of the other people think ‘Oh, they must be having issues,’ which isn’t the case at all.”
