Freedom District Lions serve up some holiday cheer

Freedom District Lions wait for the arrival of the truck bringing 950 cases of fruit from Florida.

The Freedom District Lions have ended the year with a successful citrus fruit sale at Piney Valley Farms in Eldersburg.

The Christmas tree farm, located at 1150 Fannie Dorsey Rd. off of MD 97, allowed the Lions to sell their fruit outside of the main barn on the property. Those searching for Christmas trees were able to grab boxes of oranges and grapefruit for cheap prices. The Lions sent out a special thanks to Craig Northrup of Long and Foster Realty for the use of his truck to store and sell the merchandise.

Keeping with the Christmas spirit, the Lions and the Century High School Leos teamed up to support three families, having a total of nine children, for the holidays. The Lions provided Thanksgiving dinner and fruit for the families as well as provided Shooper’s Grocery Store gift cards for Christmas. The Century Leos provided over 70 wrapped gifts for the families.

“The Century High Leo’s are an amazing group of high school students sponsored by the Lions,” the Lions said in a release. “Under the leadership of teacher, Sarah Totten, and Club President, Wynn Pobletts, the Leo’s are always busy helping those less fortunate in our community.”
