Road improvements on hold because of economy

 The
glimmer of hope for having the Liberty Road improvements completed
in a timely manner just moved a bit further away.
According to a State Highway Administration (SHA) official the MD
26 improvements proposed for Eldersburg are on hold because of the
economy. This comes as no surprise to Eldersburg residents who have
been waiting for the corridor improvements since they were first
proposed in the Freedom District Comprehensive Plan. Even Delegate
Susan Krebs (R – District 9), who is actively involved in
the community, has said the state simply does not have the funding
for the road improvements at this time. Had the improvements been
started when originally planned, this might not have been the case

The MD 26 project entered the doldrums of economic uncertainty while
it was in its planning stages. The SHA
Web site lists the estimated completion of this stage as “Pending.”
The planning stage alone, according to the site, is estimated to
cost almost $300,000.
The economy’s effect on road projects goes beneath the state
level. Carroll County commissioners voted 3-0 to cancel several
road projects that had been planned for this fiscal year for the
county, a County government press release said.
“Reduced income from both the State of Maryland and local
revenue sources led to the need to reduce spending by $11 million
to $15 million,” the released stated.
