Indie bands have broken up and starting singers fallen over trivialities. But when it comes to Jesse Magee, lead singer of Sykesville-based band leftStronger, even cerebral palsy cannot silence his music. The band is set to perform Sunday, July 5 at the Bourbon Street Quarter, 316 Guilford Ave. in Baltimore at 8 p.m. The tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the door.

The 24-year-old musician was originally part of the Baltimore band Close to Normal where he also was the lead singer and songwriter before moving on to leftStronger. According to the band's MySpace page, Magee's voice is often compared to Chris Cornell of Sound Garden and Audio Slave, Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam and Scott Stepp of Creed.

"His talent speaks for itself and nothing will stand in his way of his success and being a role model for others," said Mona Freedman in a release. Freedman is the executive director and founder of Eldersburg-based Caring Communities, a service organization that promotes disability-related activities and events in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia.

Magee is returning to the stage mic after an absence from live performances. "He has not played out in a year and we are asking for the support of our good friends to help him come back out with a big bang." Freedman said.

He previously performed at various music venues, including Ram's Head Live and Fletcher's. In addition to working with leftStronger, Magee also works as a drum instructor at Jam's Music Store, located at 1438 Liberty Rd.

There seemed to be no doubt in Freedman's mind that Magee's return performance would be great. "Jesse performs catchy songs that gets the crowds going crazy with energetic and melodic vocals," she said in the release. "His lyrics and original music will rock you to your core!"
