Farm Museum presents Old-Fashioned July 4th
July 3, 2009
Celebrate Independence Day this year the old-fashioned way. Bring family and friends to the Carroll County Farm Museum for a picnic, relax to the music of live bands, stop by the gift shop, and enjoy an Old-Fashioned July 4th Celebration/Fireworks
Celebration and Fireworks. The annual event culminates with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.
Mark your calendar for Saturday, July 4, and visit the Farm Museum from noon until the fireworks end. WTTR Radio, AM 1470, co-sponsors the event and will broadcast from the grounds throughout the day. The fireworks display is sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Carroll County again this year.
Costumed guides will lead tours of the farmhouse from noon to 6 p.m. Visit the Living History Center, exhibit buildings and the Museum Gift Shop. A variety of entertainers will take to the stage throughout the day, including Ray Owens, the Carroll County Cloggers, the Carroll Jazz Singers, and Bootleg. Between 1 and 6 p.m., volunteer artisans will demonstrate skills as they were performed in the 1800s. Enjoy a scenic, old-fashioned excursion around the museum grounds from noon to 6 p.m., provided for an additional fee by wagon master Jim Saylor and his team of mules. Fun Events LLC of Taneytown will offer a bounce, climb and play area of inflatables. Children can enjoy these play-time activities all day long (noon to 8 p.m.) for a one-time fee.
If you arrive between noon and 5 p.m., admission is $5 for adults, $3 for ages 7-18 and 60+. Children 6 or younger are free with paying adult. At 5 p.m., the cost is a $6 per car parking donation to help pay for the fireworks display. (To make a larger donation to the Rotary Clubs of Carroll County’s fireworks display, contact Joe Legge at 410-239-3366.) Please keep in mind that Center Street and Kate Wagner Road will be shut down to incoming traffic at 8:30 p.m. Those coming to the fireworks must be on the grounds and parked by that time or risk being turned back. No personal fireworks, smoke bombs, or sparklers will be permitted. Pets and alcohol are prohibited.
