resident Drew Stevyns fails to win America's Got Talent competition

Despite
judge praise Drew Stevyns, the Eldersburg singer, fell short of
winning the America’s Got Talent competition Wednesday night,
not even making it to the top five acts.
Kevin Skinner, who could be viewed as the country equivalent of
Stevyns, took the gold in to competition, beating out opera singer
and cancer survivor Barbara Padilla and securing the $1 million
prize and an act in Las Vegas. The top five acts of the competition
consisted of Kevin Skinner, Barbara Padilla, Voices of Glory, Texas
Tenors and Recycled Percussion.
Stevyns, the judge-proclaimed “dark horse” of the show
performed his final song of the competition during the America’s
Got Talent finale Monday night. Stevyns’ final song choice
was “I’ll Stand By You,” a song made famous by
The Pretenders in 1994. The judges were not short on compliments.
“This is the best performance you’ve given,” Piers
Morgan said Monday. “This could be the night when a wildcard
goes all the way. “
David Hasselhoff echoed the opinion of Morgan, saying it was the
best performance Stevyns had done for the entire season. “You’ve
got a great shot at winning this thing,” he added.
Sharon Osbourne added to the positive comments. “You fill
the ticks in all of those little boxes: you’re good looking,
great voice, great likeability.”
The only recommendation? “I think your trousers could be tighter,”
she joked.
Mid way through the Wednesday two hour long finale results show
five acts were eliminated – Drew Stevyns among them. He was
paired up with country singer Kevin Skinner. Stevyns did not seem
phased by the loss.
“I couldn’t ask for anything more than this,”
he said. “This has been one of the best times of my life and
I thank you for the experience.”
