nno09_5Last year, Eldersburg participated for the first time in the National Night Out, a nationwide crime prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). This year marks the 27th annual celebration of the event, which was created to raise awareness of crime and increase crime prevention and emergency preparedness.

Sponsored by the Freedom Area Citizens Council and the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, this year's National Night Out will be even larger than the last. The event is to be held in the rear parking lot of Carolltowne Center and will feature displays from over 50 local businesses and organizations. It is free to the public and will also have a raffle, moon bounce, DJ, and more.

"We're hoping to use this as an opportunity to bring awareness to not only crime and victimization, but also as an opportunity to engage residents and businesses in public safety and helping us identify and deter crime," said Maj. Phil Kasten of the Carroll County Sheriff's Department.
