the_ugly_mug_logoThe Ugly Mug was designed to be the next big thing in Eldersburg. The non-profit café and concert house’s mission is to create a safe environment for teens to hang out. It will one day have everything from arcade games to concerts. Unfortunately, that plan has hit a wall.

The café and concert house was planned to occupy the old Nathan Henry’s restaurant building (located at 6228 Sykesville Road). For more than three years, volunteers have worked to renovate the building. However, in order to completely renovate it, the planners of the Ugly Mug would have to purchase the building.

For the past several months, the Ugly Mug’s planners and the building’s owner have been in negotiations over sale price, with the planners capping out at $500,000. Unfortunately, this is $110,000 less than what the owner wants.

As of now, the Ugly Mug planners are looking for a new location. Luckily, little money was lost on the renovations because most of the funds came from the building’s owner.

The café planners are hosting a brainstorming session at the Freedom Optimist Community Building on August 21 at 2:00 pm to plan the future of the project.
